Simpson, Mary Jane “Jerry”, 95, was called to her heavenly home on Thursday, December 2, 2010. The funeral service will be in the chapel at Central Christian Church, 2900 N. Rock Rd., at 10:00 a.m., on Monday, December 6. She was born Mary Jane Morgan on May 31, 1915, in Wayne, NE to Frank and Jessie Morgan. Jerry was preceded in death by her husband, Don C. Simpson, on December 4, 1994, and by her brother, Jack Morgan. Jerry and Don were married for 59 years. She is survived by her sister, Margie Berglund of Spokane, WA and her children, Jack (Wally Sue) Simpson of Wichita, Dr. Tom (Linda) Simpson of Sterling, KS and Jane (Bob) Mark of St. Louis, MO; grandchildren, James (Dawn) Simpson, Mary-Margaret Simpson, Michael (Stephanie) Simpson, Anne-Marie (Josh) Friesema, Melanie (Dr. Michael) Wood, Pamela (Patrick) Simpson-Eighmy, Mary Catherine (Ryan) Kirby, Nancy (Brian) Inwood, Emily (Eric) Remington and Laura (Adam) Bush; and 17 great-grandchildren. Jerry was a bright woman, caring and dedicated to her family, who was interested in and involved in many things over her lifetime. She attended Wayne State Teachers College and was an avid reader with a curious mind who was a lifelong learner. She wrote well and voluminously, letters to family and friends especially. She had many friends and loved to be with them. She was a 50-plus-year member of PEO, having served as president of the CI Chapter; she served on the Board of the Wichita Childrens Home as its Treasurer; she was an active church member, most recently of Central Christian Church in Wichita. She played both golf and bridge all her adult life and, a member of Crestview Country Club, was once city nine-hole ladies golf champion. She loved to travel, knit and needlepoint, and grow roses. She had a wonderful sense of humor, loved going on “adventures,” and was the “best grandma ever!” and will be missed by all who knew her, especially her family. Most importantly, Jerry loved the Lord Jesus Christ; she was a faithful worshipper and pray-er, and she has gone home to be with her Lord in glory, restored to the woman God created her to be as His beloved child. We look forward to living eternally with her in the new heavens and earth! In lieu of flowers, Memorials have been established with the Kansas Humane Society, 3313 N. Hillside, Wichita, KS, 67219 and the Wichita Childrens Home, 810 N. Holyoke, Wichita, KS, 67208. Downing Lahey Mortuary East.

  2. To the Family of MaryJane Simpson: You do not know me but your mother helped my daughter with a family history project years ago when she was in elementary school. She had information that we were unaware of about my mother’s family in Wayne, NE. My mother was Elizabeth Jones daughter of Roscoe and Ella Jones of Wayne. I am so sorry for your loss and you are in my prayers at this time of sorrow for your family.

  3. I’m so sorry for your loss. I will always remember Mrs. Simpson and her leadership of our Girl Scout troop. Her work over many years touched many girls like me as we matured. She was a wonderful lady and role model. May God comfort you.
