Mary Kay VinZant, 69, devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt and loving friend to so many, died Friday, June 11th, 2021, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Dublin, Ireland, and adopted at 9 months old to a sweet and loving family in Wichita, Kansas; her brother Robert, had been asking for a baby sister for many years. She spent her childhood days with her big brother, her side-kick, J.C. McDonough and neighborhood friends. Mary Kay attended Mount Carmel High School, where she would meet her life-long friend and future sister-in-law, Beth VinZant. She was a graduate of Wichita State University. She met her husband Larry in 1983. They celebrated their 37th Wedding Anniversary in May. They enjoyed some of their early years together sailing on the Genevieva Rose. Her only daughter, Megan, was born on February 7th, 1987. She was the apple of Mary Kay’s eye. She spent the next 22 years on the ball fields and in the gymnasiums. She and Larry were Megan’s biggest fans. In 2017, Mary gained a beloved son-in-law, Taylor, when her daughter married. Megan’s wedding day was one of her most cherished memories. She left the good earth knowing Megan will forever be cared for. She loved enjoying a coffee on the back porch looking over her beautiful flowers. Mary Kay could always be found with a fluffy Australian Shepherd. She loved the holidays, the color green, and traveling to Oklahoma City to spend time with Megan and Taylor. She spent the last several years alongside her good friend Mary Johnson, working as a law clerk for Johnson Law. She was a devout Catholic and member of Blessed Sacrament Church. She touched the lives of many people and was surrounded by family and friends with the deepest love in her last days. She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Alice Youngers; brother, Robert Youngers. She is survived by her husband, Larry VinZant of Wichita; daughter, Megan G. (VinZant) Barton and son-in-law, Taylor G. Barton of Edmond, Oklahoma; sister-in-law, Rita Youngers of Wichita; numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Memorials in her name have been established with Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Kansas Humane Society, and Good Shepherd Hospice. Rosary will be Friday, June 18, 2021, at 7 pm at Downing & Lahey East Mortuary. Funeral Mass will be Saturday, June 19, 2021, at 9:30 am at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Her final resting place will be at White Chapel Memorial Cemetery. One of Mary Kay's wishes was for everyone to wear a touch of green at her celebration of life (and she said socks don't count).
I remember MaryKay telling me two story about muffin her dog.( I believe that was her name?.). Mary had gotten her at the humane Society! She said that was the best $ 10.00 bucks she ever spent!! The same dog, Mary was making meat ball for some kind of gathering. She said she was busy making and making meat balls and finally turn around and looked and she said (that’s all I made?.) She went back to making them and out of the corner of her eye caught Muffin standing to the top of counter eating her meatballs! She said muffin had one full belly!! Lol Again same dog , Mary had order a cake and had place it under the bed for safe keeping so she thought ?!. Will she didn’t shut the door all the way. She come home for work and shower etc. went to get the cake and the door was open and reached under the bed to pull cake out and the box the cake was in was all chew up and half the cake was gone! She laugh so hard telling me these stories. I said Mary was you mad ?, she said no because both times it was her fault not Muffins! She she the meat balls I should push my platter back farther back on counter top and the cake was my fault I lift the door cracked. The dog was doing what dogs loved to do eat food!! Lol She loved her dogs all of them at different times of her life. She truly love her animals and took care of them just liked she took care of Magan! She always would say, you take a pet , you take full responsibility for loving it and caring for it and taking it to the vet as needed!! She truly love animals!! RIP my MaryKay and have fun playing ball with your dogs in heaven!
Mary Kay loved holidays and she would open her home to family and friends. I especially remember Halloween when she and Rita would entertain the the trick or treaters by wearing costumes. She was a faithful Godmother to my daughter Abby being present for all of her big events. Mary Kay’s dry sense of humor and generosity will be missed by all. RIP Suzy Stutz
I worked with Mary Kay at Wescon from 1983 to 1987. She was a joy to work with. We would sit in the computer room late in the evening and wait for the month end statements to print. She would laugh and say “a watched pot never boils” when I was looking at the computer screen. I gave her a very large bear for Megan after her birth…..Maybe Megan remembers it. God Bless you all.
