Mary Margaret Mehl, 74, retired banker, passed away Thursday, May 28, 2020. Rosary, 9:30 a.m., followed by the Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m., both Monday, June 1, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Preceded in death by her father, Ray Chipman, and mother, Maudie Mickell. Survivors: husband, Doug; son, Brian (Julie) Mehl of Overland Park, KS; daughter, Melanie (Rick) Vandenberg of Lenexa, KS; grandchildren, Zoie Mehl and John and James Vandenberg. Mary was known as a friend to all. She had a way of making people comfortable and starting conversations with strangers. She loved the simple things in life and spending time with her family. In retirement, she discovered a love for gardening and was honored as a Master Gardener Emeritus in 2019. Her and Doug enjoyed many adventures in their red corvette. They loved to travel all over the country, but she always made her way to Kansas City to cheer on her grandkids in whatever activity they may be doing. She will be greatly missed by her loving family and friends. Memorials established with Catholic Charities, 437 N. Topeka, Wichita, KS 67202 and Serenity Hospice Care, 9415 E. Harry, Suite 306, Wichita, KS 67207. Downing & Lahey Mortuary West.

She was the most energetic person I’ve ever known, seldom taking a day off. Her family was always top priority, then her hobbies and friends. I’ll always admire her stamina. Love and prayers
I went to grade school, jr high & high school w/Mary & got reacquainted when her & her husb had their 50th anniv. Meant to have lunch w/her while in KS & never did. Sure wish I would have got one last visit w/her. She was a beautiful person.
Aunt Mary was always part of the glue that held our family together. From hosting Christmas Eve every year at her home (when I was younger) to always commenting on a photo of our kids posted to Facebook (as I got older and had moved away). She was always there for her family and relatives as a source of inspiration, love and life. She will be greatly missed for now until we are all reunited again someday. Love you, Aunt Mary.
Doug Thinking of you and your family during these trying times. Mary was always a kind and gracious person and I know she will be greatly missed.
Loved this sweet vivacious lady with a generous spirit who was a friend to all! Heaven’s a little brighter today because of Mary! So sorry for your loss, holding you all in my prayers!
