No one like our Aunt Mary.
Some of the things I remember.
Aunt Mary, you:
– were my “godmother” and took that role seriously.
– made me feel like I was your favorite, when I know I wasn’t the only one. Ha!
– had a distinct laughter as you simultaneously spoke.
– and your heartwarming welcome whenever we came to your house or beauty shop.
– gave us those yummy nutty bars and glass bottle cokes whenever we came to visit you at your beauty shop
– and those famous, yummy Christmas candies that you made and how they beautifully littered your kitchen and freezer. From peanut brittle, peanut clusters, cherry mashers, chocolate fudge and that incredible Divinity candy.
– and your stylish, dark, painted nails and I loved it when you would wash my hair after you would do my hair.
– and those hair products. From the Aussie shampoo and conditioner to the cool hairspray.
– inviting us to your all’s house and we got to play Atari video games from Donkey Kong to Frogger!
– taking me to Towne West Mall and your seeming love for jean shirts and Jean jackets.
– you styling Grandma Stevens hair every week.
– and that silver Oldsmobile was so cool.
– We loved getting to see you and Uncle Mike almost every Sunday at grandpa and grandma’s house and me and my sisters would hide in your all’s van and play inside, thinking it was the coolest ride ever.
There’s so much to reminisce about with you Aunt Mary. A treasure to us. I can only imagine when you opened your eyes into the new life you’ve entered into…when you saw the Lord, I can almost see you standing in awe at His glorious presence that has welcomed you, His daughter.
I love you Aunt Mary.
Love, Teresa
Aunt Mary, I remember being so young and small, but you always made me feel bigger than life! You would let us spend the night and it was so fun looking up to you. I soaked it all in watching you lather on the cold cream at night. Then in the early morning, gazing at you applying your makeup and meticulously fixing your hair. Dreaming one day, I too, would grow up and learn how to do it as good and perfect as you. You really knew style back in the day!
You gave me my first perm in your big hairdressers chair! I can vividly remember the plastic yellow floral cape you gently graced over my shoulders, the smell of the mix of chemicals and perfume filled the air. You telling your other friends and customers my eyes were so green because I was secretly a frog, Ribbit!!!
I remember when you married Uncle Mike, you two had so much fun together! What a hoot that Van of yours was. It was, back in the day, the coolest ride around! I have delicious memories of you two taking us in the Van to Dairy Queen. We filled up on Dilly Bars, and always had to take Grandpa back a Jack and Jill Sundae. Those were the days!
I know you are with Grandma, Grandpa, Steve, Mickey and all the other Family members who have gone before…..I can only imagine what a beautiful Homecoming it was! Save room at the table for the rest of us, I love You and know I will see you again!
Love always, your niece, Mary Kay🩷🐸
