Matthew A. Young, of Towanda, 49, Detective with the Wichita Police Department, died Tuesday, October 1, 2019. Memorial Service will be at 10:00 am, Saturday, October 5, 2019, at Central Christian Church. Survived by his parents, Ronald and Mary Margaret Young; wife, Laurie A. Young; daughters, Rebecca (Alan) Billen of Reading, KS, McKenzie Young of Wichita, KS, Makenna Young, Maranda Young, Maryn Young; sons, Michael Young, Marcus Young, all of Towanda, KS; sister, Rebecca (Vince) Travnichek of Camdenton, MO; brother, Randy (Juli) Young of Howard, KS; grandchildren, Gunnar Billen, Matthew Hill; sister-in-law, Karen (Bob) Trammell of Halstead, KS; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends that became like family. Matt Young was first and foremost a loving husband and devoted father. A true family man, giving his all to those he loved and cared about in his life. He and the love of his life Laurie were high school sweethearts, together 31 years and married 25. They have created a beautiful family of seven children and two grandchildren. Secondly, Matt was a man of service. He started as a police officer for Emporia, KS in 1994 and came to the Wichita Police Department in 2000. He was a patrol officer, member of the WPD Bomb Squad, honor guard member, and a Detective for the Sex and Domestic Violence Division. He cared deeply for the people he served and for the men and women in blue he had the honor to serve beside. Lastly, Matt would want to point to Jesus as his Lord and Savior in hopes to see us all in Heaven someday. I’m thankful for facebook and having the chance to follow him through his last few months & most of all the chance to pray for him & his family through it all. Matt has left so many with a huge empty space in their lives but he left everyone he knew with a lot of love and the fact that they had someone they could always count on with him. Matt was one of the students that went with me to Manhattan to learn about starting a prom party for students at Flinthills High School and I couldn’t have asked for a more polite, mannerly and kind young man to have gone with me and that carried over in to his life and career. Thank you, Matt, for your service to the public. You will be greatly missed. Love and prayers for the family.
