Matthew Brokaw, age 50, of Wichita, KS passed away on December 27, 2025, after a courageous battle with Esophageal and Gastric cancer.

Matt was a devoted husband, proud father, and loyal friend. He built a meaningful career in sports management where he was respected for his hard work and dedication. He spent 25 years working for the Wichita Thunder Hockey Team. Outside of work, he was passionate about sports — whether cheering on his favorite teams the New York Giants, New York Islanders, and Michigan Wolverines, coaching, or sharing the love of the game with his kids. His greatest joy in life was being a dad, and he never missed a chance to support, encourage, and celebrate his children.

He will be remembered for his strength, his sense of humor, and the way he inspired others with his determination and love for life.

He is survived by his wife, Jessica, his children, Max and Cam, sister, Kim Saunders, brother, Scott Brokaw and many friends and family who will miss him deeply.

A Rosary at 10:00 am, followed by a funeral Mass at 10:30am, both on January 2, 2026, at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, Schulte, Kansas.

  12. Rest in peace, Matt.
I’ve known Matt since kindergarten, and he has been a dear friend to me throughout the years. Even after moving away and then coming back, I treasured the time spent enjoying Thunder games thanks to him with my family. I’ve been so proud of his journey and watching his family grow. He had such a contagious laugh and a loving heart for his community. He will be deeply missed.

  13. Matt,
You were always friendly and easy to talk to. Your sports passion was evident every game, every time I saw you at Thunder games. Even though it has been several years since I last saw you I will always remember your zest for life. May comfort surround your wife and kids during this time. God bless. Prayers for your entire family.

  14. My thoughts and prayers are with Matt’s family and the entire Thunder family. We started at the Thunder within a couple weeks of each other. We had so much fun working together. Going over to the ice rink to play bubble hockey during our “breaks” where he always beat me. Going to the after parties. Always laughing and having fun. Matt got me into fantasy football where we’d laugh so hard and make fun of each other at the annual draft. Once family and kids came along we got to share our boys successes with each other. I loved coming back for the games and talking with Matt about the direction life was taking us. Matt will be missed by so many. I’m so thankful our paths crossed for so many years and I’m proud to call him a friend. RIP Brokaw.

  15. We lost a good man… who loved his family, his friends and his peers. He will be respected as a Wichita Thunder OG. What he did for the Franchise over the many years through the thick and thin will not be forgotten. It won’t be the same not seeing you roam the halls of The Vault, visiting with fans and doing your thing. Thank you for everything, my friend. May peace and comfort rest with your family. You will be truly missed.

  16. I am so sorry to hear about Matt’s passing. I’ll always remember him from our college days and good times we shared. Thinking of you and sending my deepest condolences.
