Matthew Jones

Matthew Eugene Jones of Wichita, KS passed away on Wednesday, July 24 at St. Francis Hospital, surrounded by family, after a long battle with an illness. Visitation will be from 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm, Sunday, July 28, 2024, at Downing & Lahey East Mortuary. Rosary will be at 7:00 pm, Sunday, July 28, 2024; Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 am, Monday, July 29, 2024, both at Church of the Resurrection Catholic Church. He was born October 14, 1980 in Wichita, KS. He was the second son of Randy and Kim Jones of El Dorado, KS. He grew up in El Dorado, and graduated from El Dorado High School in 1999. He then went on to obtain two bachelors degrees, Chemistry at Newman University and Graphic Design at Wichita State. Matt loved people, art, family, animals and his faith in God. He was contagiously happy, loving, caring and brilliant in his walk through life. Matt never knew a stranger, or passed up an opportunity to brighten someone’s day. His zest for life and charismatic personality will be missed by the countless lives he touched. Matt was preceded in death by his grandparents, Bob and Helen Bergkamp and Robert Jones. He is survived by his parents, Randy and Kim Jones of El Dorado, KS; brothers, Brent Jones, and Andy and Callie Jones, both of El Dorado, KS; sister, Kristina and Adam Horine of Pawnee, OK; nephews, Cooper and Bryson Horine; nieces, Laycie and Kendall Jones and Blakely Jones; significant other, Brianna Zerger, and numerous other family and friends. In lieu of flowers, an art scholarship fund has been set up through Partnership in Education Foundation, Inc. at El Dorado High School, 124 West Central, El Dorado, KS 67042. Checks or cash can also be dropped off or mailed to: Community National Bank, 301 N. Main St., El Dorado, KS 67042, checks made payable to the Matthew Eugene Jones Memorial.
