Stoops, Maude, 94, loving mother and grandmother, passed away Thursday, April 19, 2012. Visitation with the family, 2-4 p.m., Sunday, April 22. Service, 9:30 a.m., Monday, April 23, both at Downing Lahey Mortuary West. A Graveside Service will follow at 2:30 p.m. in Fort Scott (KS) National Cemetery. Maude was born in Valleytown, North Carolina, the second of six children, to Sid and Lelia (Waldroup) Piercy. They have all preceded her in death. She was also preceded by her husband of 57 years, SGM Roy Stoops, whom she met after World War II while working in the aircraft plants. She traveled widely with him during his military career. Maude was a talented folk artist in silversmithing, quilting and weaving. Her love of games and puzzles kept her active and alert until the end. Survivors: daughter, Carolyn Rangel (Steve) of Wichita; grandchildren, Douglas Rangel (Nicole) of Minneapolis, MN, Minda Gossen (Matt) of Wichita; great-grandchildren, Ariana, Madeleine and Isaac.
