Maurice S. Khoury

Khoury, Maurice S., age 76, died suddenly on Friday, Aug. 31, 2012. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 4, at Downing Lahey Mortuary West. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5, at St. Jude Catholic Church, 3030 N. Amidon. Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery Mausoleum with a luncheon following at St. Jude Catholic Church. All are welcome. Maurice was born Feb. 7, 1936, in Rashayya Al-Fukhar, Lebanon. At 17 he left his mountain home for Beirut and worked for The Daily Star newspaper. After completing his Public Health Certificate at American University of Beirut, he joined the teaching faculty. An opportunity to work in an entomology laboratory took him to Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. After 4 years, Maurice emigrated to the United States to pursue a degree in Aircraft Engineering at Parks College. He completed his studies at Northrop Institution of Technology in California. Maurice married Janet Mahon in St. Louis, Mo., in 1966, and settled in Wichita, Kan. His engineering profession carried him from Cessna Aircraft to Boeing and he retired from Bombardier Learjet in 2003. His generous spirit was enjoyed by many family and friends. Maurice was preceded in death by his parents, Shafik and Samha Khoury; daughter, Lara M. Khoury; his brothers, Sohail and Abdullah; his sisters, Toufia and Souad. He is survived by his wife, Janet; son, Robert (Kathy) Khoury and their children, Jessica, Alec, Jacob and Ethan; his daughter, Jennifer (Tim) Lawrence and their children, Gabe S. Figueroa, Cameron and Meagan Lawrence; brother, Kamal (May) Khoury and their children, Ryan and Matthew, all of Wichita; sisters Alda and Olivia Khoury of Beirut, Lebanon; nieces, Hilda (Elie) Teyah and Nora Khoury; nephew, Ramzi Khoury.
