Max J. Huffman

August 25, 1936 ~ February 20, 2022
Max J. Huffman, 85, died peacefully on February 20, 2022, with family present in Wichita, Kansas.
Max was born at home in Medford, Oklahoma on August 25, 1936. He earned three letters in football as a Medford Cardinal graduating with the class of 1954. He served three years in Tokyo, Japan with the United States Army Security Agency (ASA). After his military service, he married Sharon Eulberg, also from Medford, Oklahoma, on January 4,1958. They recently celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary. Together they raised five children. Along the way, he completed his bachelor’s degree at Central State University and his master’s degree at Wichita State University.
Max was a life-long learner during his careers as an educator, a school administrator, a hospitality executive, and an entrepreneur, recently retiring from vocational adventures. He was an innovator in each of his endeavors. At his first professional job he was tasked with teaching special education without books, supplies or curriculum; he initiated and coached a 5th through 8th grade football program at Christ the King Catholic School; he started an ungraded reading program that successfully advanced many kids reading grade levels that had otherwise not progressed; and, he changed athletic leagues at Hugoton High School creating more balanced competition.
Other than learning, Max enjoyed reading, history, and aviation, and was active in his parish.
He touched many with his empathy, connection, inspiration, guidance, appreciation, and acceptance.
Max is survived by his wife, Sharon; his children, Kurt (Pamela), Shannon, Grant (Cindy), Vaughn and Drew; his grandchildren, Zac, Tessa, Isaac, Hannah, Caleb, Augustin, Jonathon, Vanessa, Andrew, Veronica and Julia; his great-grandchild, Romee; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Syble (Rankin) Huffman; and siblings, Kenneth, Neva, Bob, Dwight, E.J. and Linda.

I remember the Huffman’s & Eulberg’s. Saw Max once @ Medford School Reunion. Knew Linda a little better.
Rest Max, until you hear at dawn, the low, clear reveille of God. Thank you for your service to this nation. U.S. Army.
