Michel H. "Mike" Feemster Mike Feemster led a full life centered around his family, his work, and making things with his hands. Born March 12, 1943, Mikes family moved to many cities, from Richland, Washington, to Buffalo, NY, and several others. He graduated from the University of Tulsa in 1968 with a degree in business administration. Starting with IBM that year, Mike retired after 30 years working first in administration, then transferring to technical service engineer where he was named outstanding student in his class. He loved to fix and create, especially furniture and leather work. Mike was also an enthusiastic cook. Mike and his wife Cathy became active volunteers in the special needs community when their daughter, Elizabeth, was born. Mike was active in Special Olympics, The Arc of Sedgwick County and at Starkey, Inc. He was featured in a United Way brochure for his volunteerism. Mike was Cathys most enthusiastic cheerleader, especially when they purchased the East Wichita News. He helped in his spare time, mostly with the old paste-up method. He became an expert at that in about 15 minutes. They resurrected that newspaper from near death to make it a successful business for over 20 years. In retirement, he decided to keep busy by driving a bus for the Wichita School District, always signing up to drive the special education students. Mike was also active in Grace Presbyterian Church. Another love for Mike was football. He started in organized teams at age 10 in the Cincinnati area, playing his high school years in both Dallas and Lake Forest, IL. Mike never played in a losing game. He played middle guard and fullback. Mike and Cathy were married 49 years. He died January 29, 2018, and is survived by his wife; his daughter, Elizabeth; brother and sister-in-law, Tim and Gretchen Feemster of Dallas; sister, Deborah Snaukstas of Charleston, SC; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bill and Micki Stephans of Wichita; nieces, Melissa Feemster of Chicago and Leah Page Snaukstas Gause of Charleston; and nephews, Sean Stephans of Wichita, Ryan Stephans of Olathe, KS, and William Snaukstas of Charleston. Visitation will be from 6:00 8:00 p.m., Thursday, February 1, 2018, at Downing & Lahey East Mortuary. A Celebration of Life will be held at Grace Presbyterian Church at 11:00 a.m. on February 2, 2018. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established at Grace Presbyterian Church, 5002 E. Douglas, Wichita, KS 67208, Starkey, Inc., 4500 W. Maple, Wichita, KS 67209 and with Docs Friends, PO Box 771089, Wichita, KS 67277.
