Nannette Esther Duncan

Nannette Esther (Nan) Duncan passed away on Thursday, May 26th at the age of 90. She was born on October 7, 1931, in Clayton, Missouri. Following her family’s move to Wichita, Nan graduated from Wichita State University and had the opportunity to enjoy a variety of jobs and volunteer work. A laboratory technician, a teacher for handicapped deaf teenagers, teachers’ supervisor, and wrote as well as coordinated education programs for students at the Institute of Logopedics. Upon “retirement” she became a realtor and owned and managed several rental properties for many years. Nan was a long-time member of St Francis of Assisi parish where she taught religious education and later was a board member for Catholic Social Services. She also found time to be a cub scout “Den Mother” and girl scout leader. In support of her pharmacist husband Bob Duncan, Nan became President of the Kansas pharmaceutical Auxiliary and she aided in scholarships for KU pharmacy students. Nan and Bob traveled worldwide and became members of the Friendship Force International. They made friends and experienced different cultures while staying in the homes of new friends in many different countries. They in turn hosted many international visitors in their home as well.
Nan is proceeded in death by her parents James A (Pippy) Duncan and Florence M. (Fluff) Duncan, brother Russell L. Duncan and husband Robert E. Duncan. She is survived by daughter, Sheila J. Pursell (Arthur) Bella Vista, AR, son, Douglas S. Duncan of Wichita, ex daughter-in-law, Sheri, who is like a daughter, Sheri L. Duncan of Wichita; granddaughters Briana Bogdan (Stan) of Wichita, Kaylee Sanders (Antwone) of Wichita, Amber Crowe (Robby), San Diego; and 4 great-granddaughters. Nan enjoyed gardening and was a Sedgwick County Master Gardner where she researched historic medicinal herbs and created the Historic Medicinal Herb Garden in the Old Cowtown Museum. She loved her family, many friends, murder mysteries and a good game of cards.
The Rosary will be on Tuesday, May 31, 2022, at 7:00 pm, and Funeral Services will be on Wednesday, June 1, 2022, at 10:00 am, both at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 645 N. 119th West, Wichita. Memorial has been established with: Historic Wichita Cowtown, Inc., 1868 W. Museum Blvd., Wichita, KS 67203. Downing & Lahey Mortuary - West Chapel.
Sheila I so enjoyed reading about your mom and her many varied interests, hobbies and especially her fun loving nature and concerns for a wide variety of people! Nan accomplished quite a lot in her life here on earth. I see helping others in many ways, a world traveler and a great leader. I always enjoyed her company over the years and will miss her. She was quite a lady! Annette Joy

I will forever miss y second Mom. A bright spot in my childhood. We shared a great neighborhood family and countless memories. My heart goes out to Doug and Shelia but I draw comfort in the reunion of our Moms laughing in heaven together. All my love Connie
