Niall Shanks
Shanks, Niall, the Curtis D. Gridley Distinguished Professor in the History and Philosophy of Science, died Wednesday morning (July 13) following a lengthy illness. He was 52. Professor Shanks came to Wichita State July 31, 2005. He was the vice president of Americans for Medical Advancement and past president of the Southwest and Rocky Mountain Division of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. A sole surviving Aunt, Joan Kidd, resides in England. Memorial service pending. Donations in his honor may be sent to the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, 313 S. Market, Wichita, KS, 67202.

Niall was a good philosopher, an instructive colleague, & a delightful companion to share an \’ale\’ with. He brought light to benighted back-country lives, laughter and insight to friends, respectful and considered opposition to intellectual foes. He was a fount of solid wisdom. He should still be here.
I have known Niall since our days at Rossall School. A big loss to anyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. I will raise a pint for him.
