Nicolasa (Hernandez) Gonzalez Caballero 101, went to her Heavenly Father and Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on April 23, 2018. Nicolasa passed peacefully in her sleep at Sandpiper Bay Care Facility in Wichita, where she was known to all as "Nick" or "Nickie". She was born July 1, 1916, in La Barca, Jalisco, Mexico, to Felix and Rafaela (Ramirez) Hernandez. Nicks parents brought her and an older sister (by 2 years) to the United States in 1918 to escape the Mexican Revolution. Her parents settled their family in at Fort Sumner, New Mexico, where Nicks father was employed by the Santa Fe Railroad. A short time later, Felix was transferred to Arkansas City, Kansas, where Nick grew up as one of ten siblings. In 1940, Nick met the love of her life and married Jesus "Jess" Valazquez Gonzalez. Preceding Nick in death are her parents, Felix and Rafaela; her husband, Jess Gonzalez; son, Richard Gonzalez; sisters, Jessie and Lola; brother, Yness; granddaughter, Elizabeth Hightower; grandson, Danny Jurado; sons-in-law, Lee Jurado and Gary Carter, and daughter-in-law, Mary Gonzalez. Surviving Nick are her husband, Luis Raul Caballero; daughters, Mary Delores Jurado, Rebecca Marie Hightower and her husband, Leon, Mary Helen Carter; son, Jesus "Jessie" Valazquez Gonzalez and his wife, Judee; granddaughters, Carolyn, Kelly, Shelia and Sierra; grandsons, David, Lance, Laird, Layne, Laren, Jerry and Jordan; 14 great grandchildren; sisters, Val Barrera, Phil Garcia, Molly Ramirez and Toni Hall; brothers, Boniface and Joe Hernandez, and many nieces and nephews. Rosary, 7 p.m., Friday, April 27, Downing & Lahey Mortuary West, 10515 W. Maple. Funeral Mass, 10 a.m., Saturday, April 28, St. Patrick Catholic Church, 2007 N. Arkansas. Immediately following mass, entombment will be at Resurrection Mausoleum, 1642 N. Maize Road all in Wichita. Memorial established with St. Patrick Catholic Church.
