Norman Deiter, 84, lived a long and happy life filled with loving family, good friends, meaningful work, and deep connection to his faith and his community. He passed away on Thursday, January 4, 2018 with his family at his side. Norman was born October 4, 1933 in Paxico, KS, to George Thomas and Golda Katherine (Davis) Deiter. Norman graduated from Paxico Rural High School in 1951, where he met the love of his life, Marian Ouellette. After high school, Norman served in the U.S. Air Force for 4 1/2 years as a flight mechanic, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. During that time, he and Marian exchanged vows in 1954, for what was to be 49 years of marriage. Norman was a lifelong Kansas State Wildcats fan, graduating in 1961 with a degree in electrical engineering. He was rumored to have been the Wildcat mascot on various occasions during his years at K-State. After college, he started work with the Boeing Company for the next 35 years in Systems Engineering and Program Management. He completed his MBA from Wichita State in 1976. Norman was very active in his community and church, serving many years as a Boy Scout leader, coach, Knights of Columbus, and parish leader. He loved watching sporting events, especially when his children were playing. Norman was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Golda; brother, Jack; wife, Marian. Norman is survived by his sons and daughters, Alan (Reitha) Deiter of Wichita, KS, Sherry (Jeff) Skinner of Derby, KS, Greg (Tanya) Deiter of Frisco, TX, Susan (Dean) Watson of Andover, KS, Mark (Peggy) Deiter of Wichita, KS; eleven grandchildren, Laura, Allison, Chris, Courtney, Heather, Whitney, Brian, Caitlin, Derek, Corbin, Grant; three great-grandchildren, Shawn, Olivia, Gavin; brothers, Donald Deiter and Lloyd (Mary) Deiter; sisters, Louise Glotzbach, Liz King, Martina (Paul) Hiegert; sisters-in-law, Clementine Henry, Patty Ouellette; many beloved nieces and nephews. Rosary will be at 5:00 P.M., Monday, January 8, 2018; Funeral Mass will be 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, January 9, 2018, both at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Memorials have been established with: Good Shepherd Hospice, 7829 E. Rockhill S-403, Wichita, KS 67206; Catholic Care Center, 6700 E. 45th St. N., Bel Aire, KS 67226.
