Norman Lee Allen

Norman Lee Allen, 87, passed away April 29, 2017. Norman was born and raised and attended school in Wichita, Kansas. During his military career which spanned 27 years including 5 years with the Marines and 21 years in the Air Force, retiring in 1977. His service years included two tours of Vietnam. During his military service, Norman was stationed in Okinawa, Japan, Korea and Thailand. He was able to travel to Australia and was stationed twice at McConnell Air Force base. Norman held many jobs after he left the military because he loved to keep active. He worked at Beech Aircraft, the Air Force Commissary, Veterans Administration and Department of Commerce before finding his best loved employment at the Wichita Public Libraries. Due to hearing loss, he stepped down from his favorite job at the Library and began an actual retirement. Norman was a member of the West Side Christian Church in Wichita. Normans leisure time activities included watching the Stock Market, bowling and reading. Norman tried to maintain a healthy diet and walked and jogged to maintain his slender build. Norman is survived by his sister, Zenna Julia Marlene, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews, friends and neighbors who will miss him dearly. A viewing will be held from 4 pm to 8 pm on Sunday, May 14, 2017 and on Monday May 15, 2017 from 11:00 am to 11:30 am at Downing & Lahey East Mortuary where a Celebration of Life service will be held at 12:00 pm. After the memorial service, Norman will be buried at White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Wichita, Kansas.
