Oliva M. Hampel, 97, co-founder of Hampel Oil Distributors, passed away Sunday May 28, 2023. She was born July 29, 1925 in St. Leo, Kansas. Oliva, aside from being a founding member of the family business, was first and foremost a homemaker who loved her children and grandchildren, having a profound positive impact on the lives of the many people she touched.She was an accomplished cook and competitive card player who loved to play pitch, pinochle, and canasta with family and friends. She was a charter member of St Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church.Rosary/Vigil will be at 9:30 a.m., Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 2, 2023, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church.Preceded in death by husband, Alfred; son, Daniel; parents, John and Ida (Schwartz) Theis; and sisters, Francis Biggs, Sylvia Horsch, Rose Ann Klausmeyer, Laverna Klausmeyer, and Lucille Hageman.Survived by her sons, William (Janet), Robert (Jorene), Kenneth (Missy), Edward (Nancy) all of Wichita; brothers, Bill (Lois), Paul, Jack (Serita), Ray Theis; 12 grandchildren: William’s children, Staci Terstriep, Scott and Jonathan Hampel; Robert’s children, Joshua, Matthew, and Nathan Hampel; Kenneth’s children, Daniel and Joe Hampel, Cassie Kingsley; Edward’s children, Patrick, Timothy, and Peter Hampel; 27 great-grandchildren.In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established with St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 645 N. 119th St., Wichita, KS 67235; Catholic Charities Adult Day Services, 2235 W. 37th St. N., Wichita, KS 67204; and Bishop Carroll Catholic High School, 8101 W.
