Oscar C. Manning

August 13, 1935 ~ January 9, 2017
Oscar Manning, of Wichita, KS, was born to Willis and Pearl Manning on August 13, 1935, at the family farm north of Max, NE, and died January 9, 2017 at Kansas Medical Center. He and Pat were married 63 years next week. Mr. Manning taught 600 kids in his 43 years of his teaching career. He was an elder at the Hill City Christian Church and was on the board of Northwest Kansas Planning and Development. He enjoyed his long association with the Charles Griffith family as he worked on their farm in summer and fall for almost 40 years. After retiring from teaching, Oscar and Pat traveled for much of the next 10 years. He was never bored on the road and loved to visit his children and grandchildren, but he was always glad to return to Hill City. When Phil Stinemetz asked him to come work for him, he began a job he loved because it gave him the opportunity to see his former students when they came to the Stinemetz Chapel for services. He liked helping keep the Christian Church in good repair, and said the best part about living in Hill City was that everyone waved when they met on the street. In 2007 increasingly serious health problems dictated a move to Wichita to be closer to specialists and Marks family. After Oscars health improved, he enjoyed the changes that came from living in the city and he often said moving to Wichita o be closer to family was one of our best decisions. He loved his last job which was delivering cars for Davis Moore and D&H. Survivors include his wife, Pat; two sons, Randy (Janet) of St. George, Utah, Mark (Jean) of Wichita, KS; daughter, Lisa (Michael) Trach of Thousand Oaks, CA; grandchildren, Michael Aubrey (Marcela) Manning, Rachel (Kyle) Touchatt, Anna (Kenny) Waddell, Lydia Manning, Megan Trach; four great-grandsons, Daniel, Jackson, Lincoln, and Parker; sisters, Lila (Mike) Faulkner of Las Vegas, NV, Daisy Jensen of Max, NE; brother, Harold Manning of Stratton, NE; brother-in-law, Roger (Neva) Shillington of Max, NE.
