Patricia Diane Male

April 27, 1931 ~ November 18, 2018
Patricia D. Male passed away November 18, 2018. She was born April 27, 1931 in Pueblo, Colorado to parents Walter N. Male and Meda G. Batchelor Male. Her father was a National Bank Examiner based in Colorado at the time. When Patricia was 6 years old, she was diagnosed with asthma. The doctor recommended that she be taken to a drier climate, so the family moved to Phoenix, Arizona for a year. After that, they came to Pratt, Kansas, then to Wichita, where she attended Alcott and Fairmount Elementary, Horace Mann Intermediate and East High School, graduating in 1951. She was baptized and confirmed in the Episcopal Church.
Patricia was a person of very few needs or wants, who loved her family above all else and they loved her in return. She had a sweet loving spirit and gave unselfishly of her time for many years as caregiver for her parents. She was always willing to drop everything to help out where needed. Many of her hours were spent babysitting her nephew, nieces and great nieces.
Patricia began attending First Mennonite Brethren Church in 1976. There, she faithfully served as assistant Sunday School teacher and child care provider. She loved the many children she cared for both at her church and those in her church family for whom she provided child care in their homes. She also volunteered at Lakepoint Senior Living Center in Wichita.
Patricia loved to travel and had visited almost all of the 50 states in the U.S. as well as Canada and Mexico. She carefully noted in a journal all of the places she had been, sending postcards back home detailing her adventures and the beautiful scenery she had encountered.
Patricia lived out her faith in the simple words of the hymn "God Will Take Care of You". She was a cancer survivor. After being diagnosed with that in 1986, she confirmed her faith in Jesus Christ by simply saying, "I couldnt live my life without Him." She led a very useful life in giving of herself to others and will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and brother, W. Newton Male, and will be buried alongside them at the Elmwood Cemetery in Augusta, Kansas. Her brother-in-law, Joseph W. "Jay" Hershey also preceded her in death.
Survivors include Sister, Donna Hershey; Sister-In-Law, Maxine Male; Nephew, Jerry and wife Tracey Hershey; Nieces: Jill Hershey, Shari Male Powers and husband Todd, all of Wichita; Julie Hershey of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada; and Kristen Male Tinker and husband Mark, of Merritt Island, Florida, and six great nieces and nephews: Alyssa Hershey and Elise Powers of Wichita, Natasha Bergen of Saskatoon, Harrison, Garrett, and Addison Tinker of Merritt Island.
Her memorial service will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, December 8 at First Mennonite Brethren Church.

To Shari and all of the family members. Im so sorry to learn of Patricias passing. She was such a nice lady. I knew her for several years when I worked at PSB. She was one of my favorite customers. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
Psalm 90:10 says that the days of our years are 70 years, And if because of special mightiness they are 80 years.
May the memories of the wonderful times you shared together bring a smile and joy in your heart.
Please accept our deepest condolences for your family’s loss.
