Patricia Louise (Nutz) Gegen, 94, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family members on November 30, 2023. Born in Pueblo, Colorado on April 12, 1929, “Patti Lou” as she was affectionately known as a young child, was the first of two children born to Mildred Baldwin Nutz and Clarence Nutz. Along with her younger sister, Marjorie Joan Nutz, and her older half-sister, Charlotte Turney, the family returned to Wichita to live with their maternal grandparents, Charles and Daisy Baldwin. A graduate of Wichita East High School, Pat married fellow classmate Benny F. Gegen on October 1, 1947, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. They would go on to celebrate 76 years of marriage, 12 children, 24 grandchildren, and 35 great grandchildren. After marriage and before starting a family, Pat worked as clerical staff for City Service. Pat was also an active member of the Society of Decorative Painters, enjoyed catching up with family through social media on her tablet, watching her soap operas in the afternoon, or working jigsaw puzzles with her husband in the basement. Known as Grandma Pat or GGMA, she was the happiest when spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, decorating for the holidays, and being surrounded by all her family members whenever possible. She is survived by her loving husband, Benny F. Gegen; her twelve children, Susan Way (Mike) of Wichita, Kansas, James Gegen (Carol) of Springfield, Virginia, Raymond Gegen (Maria) of Burlington, North Carolina, Philip Gegen (Angela) of Wichita, Kansas, Christopher Gegen (Kami) of Suwanee, Georgia, Kathy Tinsman (Dave) of Wichita, Kansas, Thomas Gegen (Sherrie) of Ave Maria, Florida, Daniel Gegen (Tina) of Wichita, Kansas, Melissa Pletcher (Doug) of Wichita, Kansas, Michelle Schintgen (Brent) of Wichita, Kansas, Alicia Little (Damon) of Wichita, Kansas, and Michael Gegen (Mary) of Winder, Georgia; 24 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Mildred Pierce and Clarence Nutz; her sisters, Charlotte Frank and Joan Boyle; her son, Benny Gegen, Jr.; and her grandchildren, April Nickl and Zachary Gegen. Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. My memories of Pat are many! I helped Pat and Benny take care of their house for 32 years so I was around a lot! I remember the on going jigsaw puzzles and the craft room where Pat did all her beautiful artwork. I used to kid her that, because of my Christmas gifts, my house was decorated in Gegen. Decorating my tree this year, I thought of her every time I hung one of her ornaments. I feel so blessed to have gotten to know Pat so well. She was a very special lady who I always admired so very much! Benny, I know how very much you will all miss her. Please know that you will be in my thoughts and prayers! With all my love!

  2. I extend my deepest sympathies to your family on the passing of your beloved Patricia. May you find comfort in the cherished memories and the love she shared with each of you. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.

  3. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family during this difficult time. May you find comfort in knowing she is resting peacefully in heaven with her loved ones. I pray for strength and healing to the family.

  4. I would like to send my condolences on your loss. Sending prayers and strength to the family in this difficult dark time. Try to remember all the good times passed with her and do the things she enjoyed the most and although she may no longer be here with us through your memories and in your heart her spirit will live on for an eternity. She is no longer feeling any pain or suffering she is now resting at peace and now you have another special angel in heaven watching over you all. May Mrs. Patricia rest in peace. xo.
