Patricia was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend to many. She enjoyed the beauty of life and prided herself on her many hand-quilted blankets and the flowers in her garden. She was also a strong, practical country woman.
Patricia's upbringing on a farm in Garden Plain and Conway Springs instilled in her a deep sense of practicality and resourcefulness. She often shared the story of her marriage to Jerry. Her one condition before she said yes was that he had a job, which he did. However, a few weeks into their marriage, he found himself looking for a job. This was only the start of the unexpected things she faced with resilience and determination. Together for 57 years until Jerry’s passing, they built a good life for their family in Wichita.
She was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, participating in the Altar Society, the parish school, and Cub Scouts. She was the first editor of the St. Joseph School newspaper and she worked at the school cafeteria and was an excellent cook. While her recipes weren't family secrets, they were never written down, as she would simply say, 'I just added some crackers' or 'just cook it until it's done.' She was also an expert seamstress and incredibly talented quilter.
Patricia loved life and friends. She was often ready for traveling with Jerry in which she boasted of visiting all but one of the states (Vermont), Canada, Mexico, Ireland and island countries in the Caribbean. She filled her weekends with card parties or visiting friends. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren doing crafts and playing card or board games. Christmas was also a highlight for all the grandkids as it came with many traditions, including the meal, the guys cleaning up afterwards and Grandma Pat’s reading the story of the nativity from the Gospel of Luke. As her family grew, they each took part in these traditions and carried them on to their families. Making sure that Patrica's impact in this world, especially in the lives of her family, will be carried on through generations.
