Pauline Draut

pauline draut
Doris Pauline Draut, passed away Thursday June 3, 2021, into the heavenly embrace of her husband of 65 years Bill. She was a fierce believer in embracing life, a bit of a fun-loving troublemaker in her youth, and a loving and caring person always to any and all. Everyone who knew her was a better person for it. She will be greatly missed by family, friends, and the caring staff at the Catholic Care Center where she spent the last 8 years of her life. She was born December 12, 1926 in Wichita Kansas, the second of four children to Ronald and Clarinda Holmes; preceded in death by them, her husband Bill Draut, and siblings Elaine Triemer and George Holmes; survived by her youngest sister Ruthie King, who she helped raise after the death of their mother. Pauline is also survived by her three children, Debbie Vincent (Marc), Michael Draut (Carrie), and Dan Draut (Kelly), 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Pauline will be remembered for so many things. A wonderful seamstress who lovingly sewed her daughter’s wedding dress. A lover of sports, who deviously changed high schools so she could play women’s basketball, and lifelong supporter of Kansas State and Wichita State sports, where husband Shocker Bill was an accomplished athlete in basketball, football and baseball. A fiercely competitive player of bean bag baseball at the CCC, conspiring with Fr. Andy to get the “good” players on their team. An occasional sneaking of a cigar behind the shed on the way to high school, riding on the fender of the car until sister Elaine ran her into the bushes. Her love of the color orange. An occasional Margarita with life-long friends Donna and Gerald Riley. Pauline’s Christmas tree and decorations were a highlighted stopping point for any tours of Assisted Living at CCC, and a great source of pride for her. The Wichita Public Schools was blessed to have her as a grade schoolteacher for some 35+ years, where she brought her loving and caring spirit to help raise a generation of our local school kids. Bill and Pauline were long time members of All Saints Catholic Church Parish. Visitation will be from 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm, Rosary will begin at 7:00 pm, Monday, June 7, 2021, at Downing & Lahey East Mortuary. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 am, Tuesday, June 8, 2021, at All Saints Catholic Church. Memorials have been established with: Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, 313 S. Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. I am really sorry to hear of Polly’s passing. I have many fond memories of her and my mom getting together. They always seemed to be laughing and having a good time whether it was drinking margaritas or having coffee and a frosty at Wendy’s. Their friendship lasted over 70 years. She always stood out to me as a unique “character”, full of fun and laughter. Polly and Bill, Donna and Gerald were a wonderful foursome. Her passing will be so hard on my mom as well as to all who knew her. She will be missed.

  2. Mrs Draut was a very kind, caring teacher. She was my daughter, Stephanie Stevens, 4th grade and favorite teacher. She went on to get her teaching degree from the inspiration she received from Mrs. Draut. Our prayers to the family.
