Ternes, Phillip D., 81, retired advertising director for the Catholic Advance, printer for McCormick Armstrong and a veteran of the United States Navy, passed away Saturday, April 9, 2011. Rosary, 7 p.m., Wednesday, April 13; Mass of Christian Burial, 10 a.m., Thursday, April 14, both at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Preceded in death by parents, Joseph and Caledonia (Garnett) Ternes; sister, Garnette Evans; wife, Dorothy Ternes. Survivors: son, Stephen Ternes (Melissa) of Wichita; daughters, Jeanne Trainer of Broken Arrow, OK, Carole Van Amburg (Douglas) of Goddard, Barb Ternes of Emporia, Margie Cartwright (Rick) of Wichita; brother, Joseph Ternes (Alice) of Sacramento, CA; 20 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials established with the Lords Diner, 520 North Broadway, Wichita, KS 67214 and Guadalupe Clinic, 940 S. St. Francis, Wichita, KS 67211. Downing Lahey Mortuary West.
