Rachel Pipitt, was born December 18 and passed away Tuesday, February 14, 2023 after a short illness. Rachel was lead performer of Rachel & David Show, also known as Burger Queen. She never met a burger she didn't like. As she often said, age is only a number, and you still don't know mine. I know she was old enough to be inducted into the Ange Hall of Fame. Anyone who knew her, knew she was a special lady. She will be greatly missed by all.

  2. To My Mother, Rachel
    (In Memoriam)

Now, that you have gone to sleep among shadows,
    On Valentine’s Day,
I will remember this about you—
I hear your voice singing jazz to me,
As when streets were filled with life in Osawatomie,
And you were a young woman there,
Those finite musical notes that became yours,
    before those streets were emptied
    in old age.

As a child you knew the poverty of Christmas,
being given only a brown paper bag of nuts,
a few oranges and a red delicious apple
    on that winter night,
When the star of the nativity had not yet shown light,
    among shadows of ancient Elysium.

Your face, your hands, your gestures
were also with those who suffered and fell, towards the shadows
    of the crosses and gravestones,
Where your struggle has ended without revenge.
There I see you along the Elysium Plains,
A son’s grief for his mother is eternal like the ageless stars.

Your voice like a ruptured song,
    In your final sleep,
What remains for me is not what I thought it would be, like a flush of quails scattering, startled
among the Smoky Hills in Kansas, Their cries ringing
as a question in one’s heart.
