Rex Eugene Friend Jr., 74, died Wednesday, July 12, 2023 in Wichita, KS. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 17, at Midland Baptist Church in Wichita. Rex was born in Rochelle, Illinois and raised in Springfield, Missouri. Later, he found his permanent home in Wichita, Kansas where he worked as a Mechanical and Electrical Technician for USPS. He was also a minister, armature comedian, singer, and great friend. He often called himself an educated Hill William “hillbilly” with over 7 years of college and countless technical training. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rex, Sr. and Pauline; and grandchild , Ashley. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Dianna; his four children, Michelle (Michael), Jaims (Maranda), Karmisa (Robert), and Katrina; children he considered his own, Lakin, Tasha, Sydney, James, Michelle, Mikey, and Monnie; thirteen grandchildren, Jaims, Dalton (Baylee), Jordan, Ivan, Jeremy (Kailyn), Tyler (Takiya), Abigail (Joseph), Isaac (Shea), Chandler, Isabella, Rebecca, Olivia, and Reighley; twelve great-grandchildren, Audrey, Xavier, Kaydence, Matthew, Grayson, Avery, Ella, Blakely, Parker, Rowan, Violet, and Ava; and his four siblings, Steven, Gary (Brenda), Regenia, and Terresa (Kenny). In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to University of Kansas Endowment Fund, P.O. Box 928, Lawrence, KS 66044-0928; or Midland Baptist Church, 4200 Church Circle, Wichita, KS 67205. Services in care of Downing & Lahey Mortuary - West Chapel.

  1. Unfortunately, I don’t have a photograph. But I have so many memories with this man and his family. And they were all good memories. He always had a smile for you and word of wisdom. I am so sorry for your loss.

  2. Rex was a coworker of mine and I enjoyed the many conversations I had with him. He was a good man of faith and I know without a doubt he is in heaven with the Father. He will be missed greatly. I want to express my condolences to his family and my prayers that God will comfort them and give them peace. I am sorry for your loss.
