Richard L. Stephey passed away in his home Sunday morning, April 25, 2021. He was 86 years old. Richard was born on May 13, 1934, in Arkansas City, Kansas, to Robert R. and Betty Stephey and was their only child. Richard married Barbara McCabe (the love of his life) in 1952; they had five children: Rick, Sandy, Cherie, Diana and Robin. Richard was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Barbara; son, Rick; daughter, Cherie; granddaughter, Tonya, and grandson, Tony. Still surviving are 3 daughters, Sandy Morgan (husband, Ron), Diana Nottingham (husband, Mike) and Robin Carmichael (husband, Tom); 14 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. When Richard left high school, he started work for Santa Fe Railroad and retired with them after 45 years. He loved trains so much, that after retirement he worked at a hobby shop in Wichita that sold model trains; trains were his LIFE, and he had always lived close to railroad tracks until just after retirement. Richard was a great husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He will be missed dearly by all who knew him. Richard, rest in peace now. We know you are back with your family that preceded you, and we look forward to seeing you again! Love you always!! Memorial Service, 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 13, 2021, at Downing & Lahey Mortuary West. www.dlwichita.com

He loved his wife and children and the community of Newton and YES trains!! I know he is at peace and with loved ones but I also know how greatly he will be missed.
