Richard Shrader, age 70, loving husband, dad, and proud grandpa, passed away Sunday, June 28, 2015. Born December 13, 1944 in Norton, KS, Richard was a family man through and through. He loved his wife mightily, and supported his childrens activities in scouting, extracurricular events, and all their life goals. He equally encouraged and took great joy in supporting his 3 grandchildren in their interests. Richard worked in several industries through his life with considerable time spent as a over the road truck driver, and self employed business owner. In his vocation he enjoyed adventure, travel, seeing the nature in our great nation, and optimistically dreaming of what could be. In retirement, he was an avid outdoorsman, fisherman, and enjoyed camping with family and friends. Most of all, Richard was a student of and for life, with a hunger for knowledge and unquenchable curiosity to understand the world around him. Preceded in death by his parents, Leslie and Florence Shrader, sister Norma Leidig and nephew Roger Leidig. Survived by his wife of 47 years, Donna; children, Lori and Jim; and 3 grandchildren (Katana, Taiyan, and Liberty), three nieces and several great nieces and nephew. Family, friends, and others whose lives Richard touched are invited to join us Sunday, July 12th 2015 at the Spirit Boeing Employees Lake (SBEA) from 3:00 -6:00 P.M. for a informal gathering and celebration of his life. A graveside service will continue at the Cemetery in Hoxie KS with a reception following. Plans are pending. Given his sensible approach to life and in keeping with his wishes, the family requests charitable donations in lieu of flowers. A memorial fund has been established in his name, Richard Shrader, with Meritrust Credit Union, located at 2050 N. Tyler, Wichita, KS. 67212 or any of their branches, to collect donations to support local animal shelters and boy scout organizations. Richard would be honored if the resources may have a lasting impact to do ongoing and future good.
