Rob Jeffrey Self passed on March 9, 2022. He was born in Wichita on October 15, 1963, youngest son of Eldon and Marlene Self of Wichita. Rob graduated from Kapaun Mt. Carmel High School in 1982 and obtained a degree in Business Management from Wichita State University in 1987, where he was a member of the WSU golf team. On August 2, 1986, he married Trisha (Haderlein) Self and settled in West Wichita, eventually relocating to Andover, KS. Rob had a talent for connecting with people and making them laugh. He spent more time asking others questions and listening than speaking about himself. He began his career by following his love of golf and desire for working with people, eventually becoming the golf pro at Clapp golf course. He would go on to work with his father and two brothers, at the family business, Self’s Inc., where he was the accounting controller. Outside of work, he found ways to serve the community through the Humane Society and Meals on Wheels. Preceded in death by grandfathers and grandmothers; mother and father-in-law; nephew, Colby Self; niece, Katie Keys. He is survived by his parents, Eldon and Marlene; Trisha Self; daughters, Danielle (Matt) Gratton, Ali (Tommy) Lawson; grandson, Henry Gratton; siblings, Mitch (Kathy) Self, David Self; brother-in-law, Michael Haderlein; sister-in-law, Barbara (Tom) Keys; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 6:00 pm, Monday, March 14, 2022, at Downing & Lahey East Mortuary. A service of remembrance will be at 10:00 am, Tuesday, March 15, 2022, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. The service will be live streamed through St. Vincent de Paul’s YouTube page. Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. One of my favorite memory is going to lunch with Rob and his dad. Them just talking about family and their banter back and forth. Rob was a good friend and he will be deeply missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.

  2. My first interaction with Rob was through the Wichita Junior Golf Foundation summer program at L.W. Clapp Golf Course. He would give lessons to all players ranging from advanced to beginning levels. Rob would encourage me to play junior meets at the country clubs and join KJGA and play those events as well. I would go on to work for Rob for three years during high school and some of my college days. Rob was a genuine guy who could relate and converse with anyone. My prayers for his family.

  3. Rock Chalk, I remember Rob taking Danielle and I to Buffalo Wild Wings our first year up at KU. It was such a fun and free-feeling time. He tried (TRIED) to install some wisdom during this dinner but all we were trying to do was wash the spicy heat down with water as fast as we could. At family gatherings, Rob was the one member I enjoyed standing next to/conversating with (no offense Gamzie/Papa, you were a close second). He made things feel not so serious. He laughed, asked about life, and never took to many things too seriously. It was an absolute joy growing up with Danielle and her family, impart due to her families love and acceptance. I look forward to seeing Ron in God’s Kingdom. I am sure he will have a billion Dad’s jokes waiting once we get there. Until then, I will remain to loving, caring, and hopefully one day good at golf in his memory. Love, Katie Stecklein

  4. Rob was such a genuine personable kind neighbor! Our hearts are sad to lose him but heaven has received a beautiful soul! God bless you Rob. You left a great legacy for Danelle and Ali. Trisha if you need anything even just a dinner partner, please reach out. Heartfelt hugs to you all. Suzanne, Austin, & Jack Griffith.
