Robert J. Rosov, 88, died January 31, 2024, at Regent Park Assisted Living in Wichita, Kansas. Bob was born in New York City in 1936 to Robert Rosov and Margaret Schillinger Rosov. He grew up in Brooklyn, New York, and graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1957 with a bachelor’s degree in science. He earned a master’s degree in electrical engineering from Brooklyn Polytech in 1964. In 1958, he married Jeanne L. Gaylets Rosov of Avoca, Pennsylvania. Bob’s interests were many and varied. He loved science and science fiction and read periodicals like Scientific American and Science News his whole life. He eschewed TV (“it rots your brain!!”) and taught his children a lifelong love of books and learning instead. No one will ever forget his rendition of the Winnie the Pooh stories, how he brought the characters to life through the voices, the sounds, and the songs he created (Piglet’s “look at me swimming!” will never die). He enjoyed camping (much more than his wife and children did!) and outdoor activities, even climbing Mt. Saint Helen’s in Washington State, happily well before it erupted in 1980. He ran four miles nearly every day of his adult life until he was almost 80. At 60, he earned a black belt in tae kwon do (which he began practicing with his grandsons Tad and Caleb), and a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Wichita State University. He was a devoted Catholic, as gentle and humble as he was brilliant. He was famous for his silly dad jokes like (upon leaving any location) “I’ll be Bach!” and (in response to anyone asking how he was) “I’m still vertical”. He was dearly loved by so many and will be greatly missed by all. He was predeceased by his brother Victor, his son, Nicholas, and his wife, Jeanne. He is survived by his brother, Eugene Rosov; his children, Su Rosov, Matthew Rosov, and Johanna Rosov; his grandchildren, Josh Wurdeman, Ana Iannuzzi, Tad Williams, Nathaniel Rosov, Caleb Wiliams, and Stephen Rosov; and his great-grandchildren Sagan Wurdeman and Milani Lancia. We all love you Bob/Johnny/ Uncle Johnny/Dad/Papa!!! Rosary will be at 5:00 p.m., Sunday, February 4, 2024; Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, February 5, 2024, both at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 3642 N. Ridge Road, Wichita, KS 67205. Bob enjoyed many enjoyable hours with his grandsons at the Cosmosphere International SciEd Center and Space Museum, 1100 N. Plum Street, Hutchinson, KS 67501 (www.cosmo.org), so the Bob Rosov Memorial has been established for him there. In lieu of flowers, donations can be mailed (please put Bob Rosov Memorial in the check memo line) or made at donate@cosmo.org, or call 316-665-9339. Services in care of Downing & Lahey West Mortuary.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. I was so sorry to see that Bob had passed. He was a lovely man and great friend to my parents. I have lost touch with the Rosov family over the years, but I have great memories. My parents have also passed, so please know that I share your pain and will remember all of you in my prayers. Hugs

  2. I am so sorry to hear of Bob’s passing. He was a wonderful friend at Cessna and also at St. Francis of Assisi church. I hadn’t seen Bob in a while and recently wondered how he was doing. I will miss not getting to visit with him again, but I know he is happy to be with his beloved wife and son again.
