Winder, Robert “Bob” Lowell, 76, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, died Friday, August 15, 2008. Services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Tuesday, August 19, at Downing Lahey Mortuary West. Bob was born February 22, 1932 on his great-grandfather, Eb Whites farmstead, in Osborne County, seven miles north of Natoma. He was the son of Cyrus L. and Ruth Irene Winder. He was preceded in death by his brother, parents, grandparents, cousins and many aunts and uncles. Bob graduated from Osborne High School in 1950, and enlisted in the Air Force where he served 4 years at Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield, California. In 1951, Bob met and married his bride of 56 years, Phyllis Ann Bean from Beloit, Kansas. From this union came 3 sons: Rodney of The Colony, Texas and Robin and Ricky, both of Wichita; 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He has one sister, Shirley Smith of Ft. Worth, TX. After the service, Bob became a sales manager for Montgomery Wards for several years. After moving back to Kansas, he was employed with several carpet distributors and carpet mills. For 45 years he enjoyed calling on stores and distributors in 7 states. He met many wonderful people in his travels and still enjoys acquaintances from those years. Bob was employed with Hortons Carpets for a number of years until retiring in 1998. He will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends. Bob always had a word of wisdom for his sons and grandchildren. When the grandchildren were young, he gave bear hugs whenever they came to see him. A memorial has been established with the American Cancer Society, 818 N. Emporia, S-100, Wichita, KS, 67214. Funeral Service will be Tuesday 1:00 PM at Downing Lahey West Mortuary. Viewing can be done Monday 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM. and Tuesday until the time of the service.

  1. Bob was a great guy. He was my mentor in selling carpet for several years. He was always ready to help me ‘up’ my selling skills. One other thing he did was introduce my to Wayne Dyer and for that I will be forever grateful. Peace to you Bob.
