Robert “Bob” Mathiesen, 68, loving husband and father, died Monday, September 18, 2023. Memorial Service will be at 1:30 pm, Friday, September 22, 2023, at East Heights United Methodist Church. Preceded in death by his parents, George and Phyllis L. Mathiesen; grandchild, Henry Thode. Survived by his wife, Sandy Mathiesen; daughters, Bailey (Joel) Thode, both of Wichita, Lindsey (Daniel) Cecil of Dodge City; son, Alex (Ica) Mathiesen of Wichita; grandchildren, Jack and Max Thode, Lainey, Claire, and Annie Jo Cecil. A memorial has been established with: East Heights United Methodist Church, Youth Group, 4407 E. Douglas Ave., Wichita, KS 67218. Services in care of Downing & Lahey Mortuary - East Chapel.

It is very painful to know that Bob has left us so soon. I worked with him at Textron from 2004 until he retired and those were good years. I pray for peace and comfort for all his loved ones during this time of immense sorrow.

Bob took a chance on a cocky former USAF CSAR helicopter door gunner 22 years ago who happened to write a reasonably coherent sample maintenance manual for a flashlight during the tech writing interview at Cessna. I only worked for him for a couple of years, but I am absolutely certain that I would not be where I am today without his leadership. I will always regret not staying in touch and not properly thanking him for what he did for me, my career, and my family. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.
