Robert was eleven years old when his father died in 1945. His mother then married Fred Schultz who Robert came to love as a real father. A sports enthusiast, he was a big fan of the Rams, Phillies, Lakers, Jayhawks, and Wildcats. He loved listening to Brenda Lee, Johnny Cash, and Loretta Lynn. Survivors: wife, Meredith; daughters and son-in-law, Audrey Worley of Joplin, MO, Chandra and Kevin Stauffer of Wichita; sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Aimee of Tulsa, Jason and Angela of Wichita; brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Bonnie of Wichita; grandchildren, all who loved him dearly, Brandon, Corinne, Jake, Jack, Henry, Tasha, Lindsey, Raysha, Jethren, Jade, Brent, Charley, and Allison. 1. Meridith, just today I saw the obituary in the Ellsworth paper for Bob and I wanted to express my condolences to you and your children who are my cousins. Bob’s father, Harm Mehl was a first cousin to my Mother, Delia (Mehl) Meyer and I well remember the accident which took his Father’s life. I think I am closer to Bob’s brother’s age as I was born in 1930 and have only talked with him once (at a Mehl family reunion about 15 years ago) since our childhood days. I have accumulated German ancestry information on both the Mehl and Bender families and would like to share it with your children and with Don if you would send me the necessary mailing addresses. Sincerely, Norman H. Meyer 2802 N. Bell School Rd. Rockford, IL 61107

  2. Steve, It has been a very long time since we have seen each other, but seeing the news of your Father’s passing comes with sadness. Please be assured my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time. May peace be with you.

  3. I know that my great friend, Bob, is now in a better place. But with a deep feeling of pain and loss it is difficult to accept. I will miss talking to him on the phone and our E-mails to each other. I will miss his signature laugh. I met Bob while we were stationed in the Navy together at Coronado, Ca. in the Communications Center. We stayed in the same barracks on base. On our days off we spent many hours on the beach in Coronado sunbathing and playing ball. He was so much fun to be with. We went to movies together, double dated and in general had a great time. Upone our Discharge in 1954, we went our separate ways, but, was always in contact with one another. We visit with our families at each others homes, here in Texas and in Kansas. We kept each other apprised of our childrens lives. We were very close. I have never had a greater friend. My wife met Bob a year or so after we were discharged when he came to visit us in San Antonio around 1957. We went all over the area showing him what Texas was like. I remember him carrying my daughter, who was a baby, all through one of our caves in the area. There are so many stories we shared and enjoyed talking about during our visits. We will miss him so much. Paul & Ruth Webb San Antonio, Tx

  4. I will miss Bob Mehl very much. We knew each other working at Wilbur Walkers when I started in the mid 60’s and have been close friends every since. I to will miss the phone calls and emails as well as visiting with him in Wichita or when he was in Oregon. I know he is in a much better place and this is the way he would have wanted it.

  5. Chandra, I was so very, very sorry to hear that your Dad passed away. I am so glad that I got to know him – quite the gentleman and such a good father to all his kids and grandchildren. I plan on attending the services in Wichita. That is such a good picture and write-up about him.
