Robert H. “Bob” Mielke, Jr.
Wichita, Kansas - 86, passed away on Tuesday, February 2, 2021. Graveside Service, 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 9, 2021, at Resurrection Cemetery. Due to Covid concerns, a recording of the service is available below. Robert was born in Middletown, Connecticut, on November 15, 1934. He was employed at Boeing for 17+ years as an aeronautical engineer, and retired from the City of Wichita after 25 years as a traffic engineer. Preceded in death by his parents, Elba and Robert Mielke, Sr., and sister, Bette George. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Charlene; children, Carol (Gary Page) Mielke and Mark (Susan) Mielke; grandchildren, Robert Loewenstein and Kelci Ganley, and five great-grandchildren. Robert was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He served during the Korean War as an aircraft mechanic and was proud to serve in the military. He graduated in 1958 from Tri-State University in Angola, Indiana, with a B.A. in Aeronautical Engineering. It was at Tri-State that he met the love of his life, Charlene. He had a passion to fish for walleye, especially from his boat at Cheney Lake. Robert also loved to play poker and enjoyed camping and being in the great outdoors. He enjoyed traveling the world with Charlene to Norway, Egypt, China and many other countries. Robert and Charlene are longtime members of Pathway Church (formerly Westlink Christian Church) in Wichita. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Pl., Memphis, TN, 38105. Downing & Lahey Mortuary West.
