Robert Lang

May 27, 1957 ~ March 29, 2023
Robert Joseph Lang, 65, went to his eternal, heavenly home on March 29, 2023. Bob passed away peacefully after battling Multiple Sclerosis for the past 27 years. Bob was born in Hays, Kansas and moved at a young age to Ellenwood, Kansas where he found his love for sports. Bob competed in basketball, baseball, and football while attending Derby High School. Upon graduation, he accepted a scholarship to play outfield for the Garden City CC baseball team. He finished his academic career at Wichita State with a degree in accounting. After college, he worked 25 years at Boeing as a Financial Analyst. During his time at Boeing, Bob married the love of his life, Sarah, and they are celebrating their 40th anniversary this year. Bob and Sarah were eager to have three children. One of his biggest joys was to coach and be involved in all their activities.
Bob enjoyed giving back to the community by volunteering for the Special Olympics, organizing charity softball tournaments, being a member of the Knights of Columbus, and ministering at his Catholic church. His faith in the Catholic church sustained him in his battle with M.S. He never complained and always looked for the good in everything. His strength and perseverance brought his family joy and will live on through them.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Bernice and Vernon Lang. He is survived by his wife, Sarah; sons, Robert J. Jr., and David (Gretchen); daughter, Catherine (Chris) Stephenson; grandchildren, Joseph and Christine Stephenson; his three siblings, Jim (Kristy) Lang, Laura (John) Hubbard, and Lois (Kenneth) Kimble.
Visitation will be from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm, Sunday, April 2, 2023, at Downing & Lahey East Mortuary. Rosary will be at 7:00 pm, Sunday, April 2, 2023; Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 am, Monday, April 3, 2023, both at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.
Memorials may be made to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 124 N. Roosevelt, Wichita, KS 67208; or Kansans for Life, 3301 W. 13th St. N., Wichita, KS 67203.
I worked with Bob for many years. He and I were on several projects together. He was a quiet guy, but ALWAYS friendly and easy to work with. And I played softball against him also for several years before the MS (I think) got to him. For maybe the younger ones, Bob was a VERY good athlete in his early years at Boeing. Trivia . . He was a scary batter because he could hit the ball to any field with power. He was always a joy be around. He was a definitely one of the “Good” guys. Prayers for his family!!!!!
Sarah and family; my heart breaks for you – he was a kind man, much like Sarah. I was lucky to have met him at company events, he always greeted me with such warmth and an open heart. You are all in my thoughts and prayers
Sarah & Family,
Please accept my deepest condolences at your loss of Bob. Eternal rest grant unto him O LOrd and let perpetual life shine upon him. May he rest in heavenly peace. I will keep you and your family in my thoughts at this most difficult of times.
