Robert Lee Riggs, Jr., 88, passed away on Friday, April 13, 2018 in Overland Park, Kansas. Memorial Service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at St. Joseph of Glastonbury Church, 1309 W. Lydia St., Wichita, Kansas.
Bob was born in Port Arthur, Texas on April 6, 1930 to Robert Lee and Dora Riggs. During high school he was part of the debate team, was the Senior Class President, and was listed in Whos Who of American High School Students. He graduated from Louisiana Tech University in 1952 with a B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering.
Upon graduation he moved to Bartlesville, Oklahoma to work for Phillips Petroleum and met the love of his life, Ellen Isenberger. Bob was a Korean War Veteran and served in the U.S. Army from 1953-1955. After completing boot camp, Bob and Ellen were married in 1954 in Ft. Smith, Arkansas. They were transferred to Edgemoor, Maryland and served in the U.S. Army Chemical Center for two years.
After an honorable discharge from the Army, they returned to Bartlesville, and he returned to work for Phillips Petroleum. It was in Bartlesville in 1957 their only child Robert Lee Riggs, III was born. Six months later they moved to Beaumont, Texas where he was a plant manager of a sulfur producing plant. In 1963, Bobs job moved to Wichita, which they came to love as home.
After the passing of his beloved wife, he moved to Overland Park to be closer to his son and family.
Preceded in death by his parents and wife, he is survived by his son, Robert (Deborah) Riggs III, of Overland Park, granddaughter, Laura Riggs, of Overland Park, and grandson, Nathan (Jill) Riggs of Indianapolis, Indiana. A memorial has been established with the American Red Cross - Midway Kansas Chapter, 707 N. Main, Wichita, KS 67203.
