Robert McGuire

August 15, 1961 ~ January 23, 2024
Robert McGuire, of Clearwater, Kansas, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, January 23, 2024. He was only 62 years old. The family is deeply saddened and shocked by his sudden death. Robert was born on August 15, 1961, and lived in Cheney, Wichita, and Clearwater most of his life.
Robert was a small business owner-he owned and operated McGuire Flatwork and Grading for over 29 years. McGuire Flatwork and Grading was Robert’s pride, joy and life’s work. He poured his heart and soul into the business which was evident to all customers and patrons of McGuire Flatwork and Grading. After 29 years Robert went to work for Sedgwick County Public Works Department as the Bridge Foreman.
In addition to owning McGuire Flatwork and Grading, Robert was an avid guitar player and singer, wood worker, craftsman, golfer, and family man. Robert spent much of his free time learning new woodworking techniques, organizing his woodworking shop, enjoying the wildlife on his property, and playing his guitar and singing.
Everyone who knew Robert knew his sense of humor and quick wit. Robert was full of light, joy, and laughter; traits that were obvious to all after even just a single meeting with him. Robert also had a very close walk with the Lord and delighted in any conversations surrounding our Creator. Robert spent a lot of time in prayer over his family and loved ones.
Robert is preceded in death by his parents, Bob Eugene and Evelyn Mattie (Murphy) McGuire. He is survived by his wife, Kelly; daughter, Jennifer Lynn (Brandon) Weber; stepdaughter, Ashley Marie (Andy) Woods; stepsons, Kurtis Anthony (Savannah) Vogel, and Caleb Scott Vogel; and grandchildren, Merrick, Kenzington, Kaden, Conner, Bella, Lilah, and Naomi. Robert is also survived by his mother and father-in-law; many brothers and sisters-in- law; as well as an abundance of friends. We will miss him more than words can say.

Great friend and classmate growing up in Cheney
So he had told me! Some funny stories!!
I still can’t believe he is gone-this hurts so much! I have so many memories growing up with my Uncle. Taking us to the lake, camping, the dirt track, family holidays. He was a funny & talented man always up to something with my dad Bill-his brother. I spent well over half my adult life away from family while serving in the military and yet he always kept in touch with me. My biggest regret in life is not coming home more to visit. I’m so sorry, so sorry. Thank you for being there to walk me down the aisle when my dad wasn’t able to. I’ll cherish that memory forever. Uncle Robert I love you and I will miss you so much!
Love Your Niece,
Jamie Tankesley (McGuire)
Robert was 1 of the first people I met when we first moved to Cheney in the early 1970’s. We met at the pool and would challenge each other on the high dive. It usually wound up being a can opener to splash the girls sunbathing.
lol!! I had heard about a few of these shenanigans! Thank you for sharing!
So very sorry for your loss! We were classmates, my maiden name was mace so we often shared a place next to each other in line. He was kind, respectful, and I’m blessed to have known him. The funeral service was a nice tribute to Robert.
Thank you Karen. He was a very kind and respectful soul.
