Robert W. Bob Burdge

Burdge, Robert W. “Bob”, 80, passed away on Tuesday, January 5, 2010 after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. Bob was born in Wichita, KS on July 25, 1929 as the only child of Walter R. and Francis L. (Carter) Burdge. He was a 1951 graduate of WSU (then, Wichita University) and had lifelong relationships with his fraternity brothers from Alpha Gamma Gamma (now, Beta Theta Pi). He spent his career as a public accountant (CPA) joining Elmer Fox Company following college. He became a partner in Fox, which merged with Alexander Grant and later became Grant Thornton. Bob retired in 1985. He was active in the leadership of his church, Goddard United Methodist, and fulfilled roles from treasurer to Bible study leader. Over the years, he was involved with a number of civic organizations, such as Ys Men and the Lions Club and was actively involved with the financial stewardship education programs of Crown Ministries. Bob was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. His priorities were his family and friends. He married Geraldine “Jerry” Reimer in 1954 and they had 3 sons, Brent of Wilmington, DE, Todd of Roanoke, VA and Rob of Paola, KS. Jerry died in a car accident in 1969. Bob remarried Virginia Lee “Ginger” Whitaker Roembach in 1971, adding a fourth son, David Roembach of Santa Fe, NM. His wife “Ginger” of 38 years, his 4 sons, 14 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren all survive him. Throughout the years, Bobs favorite hobbies were golf, sailing, family vacations and spectator sports including WSU football, basketball and the sports activities of his sons. Visitation with the family, 4:00-6:00 p.m., Friday, January 8, Downing Lahey Mortuary West. Funeral service, 1:00 P.M., Saturday, January 9, Goddard United Methodist Church. A brief graveside service will follow at Resthaven Cemetery. Memorials have been established with Goddard United Methodist Church, 300 N. Cedar, Goddard, KS 67052 and Hospice Care of Kansas, 808 S. Hillside, Wichita, KS 67211.
