West, Roberta C., 82, homemaker, passed away Thursday, November 2, 2006, after 5 years at the Kansas Christian Home in Newton, KS. Visitation with the family 5:00 ~ 7:00 P.M., Sunday, November 5, Downing Lahey Mortuary East. Memorial service 1:30 P.M., Tuesday, November 7, Hillside Christian Church, 8330 E. Douglas, Wichita, with Dr. William McConnell, officiating. Private interment will be in Cedar Point KS. Roberta was born March 31, 1924 in Cedar Point, KS to Alma and Russell Cain. She attended schools in Cedar Point, Florence and Axtell School of Nursing, Newton. On December 31, 1943, she married a soldier, James West of Boyers, PA. They were blessed with almost 63 years of marriage. They had one daughter, Rita. Roberta worked by Jims side through out their entire marriage as they made their homes in Emporia, Salina, Lexington, KY, Wichita and retiring at the Kansas Christian Home in Newton. During Jims years of military service, they lived in Concordia, KS, Owatonna, MN and Leavenworth, KS. Robertas family, home and church were important to her. She loved gardening, canning and taking care of her family. Her yard and house were immaculate. She would never pass up pulling a weed in her yard and her many roses in Salina were filled with blooms. Roberta was a Girl Scout leader in Florence, Sunday school teacher and Youth Group Leader in Salina and the ever-faithful ministers wife in Lexington and Wichita. She was the doting mother who tirelessly shuttled her daughter to dance lessons, piano lessons and all school activities. She was a founding member of Belmont Boulevard Christian Church, Salina, KS. She was a member of Hillside Christian Church, Wichita and shared her good works with the Loyal Doers Sunday School class and Joanna Circle. Roberta is survived by husband, Reverend James West, Jr. of Kansas Christian Home in Newton; daughter and son-in-law, Rita and Hugh Paustian of Niceville, FL; grandson, Cory Paustian of Overland Park, KS; sister, Bertha Linnens of Newton, Eula Williams of Loveland, CO and Willa Laughlin of Eagle, ID; brother, Tom of Little Rock, AR; many nieces, nephews and friends. Memorials may be made to Hillside Christian Church, 8330 E. Douglas, Wichita, KS, 67206 or Kansas Christian Home, 1035 SE Third St., Newton, KS, 67114.
