Rodger Lewis Jones, 81, retired United Beechcraft/Raytheon Aircraft Company Avionics Technician, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 10, 2024. Rodger was born April 30, 1942, in Emporia, KS the son of Lewis and Teresa Jones. He was united in marriage to Carolyn D. Cecil on February 20, 1966. He was married to the love of his life for 57 years. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Jones of Wichita, KS; son, Todd (Kimberly) Jones of Overland Park, KS; 4 grandchildren, Brooke Wentz of Dallas, TX; Preston Wentz of Pittsburg, KS, Kyle Jones of Overland Park, KS, and Trent Jones of Overland Park, KS. He is also survived by sister, Sondra (Dennis) Moreland of Russell, KS and son-in-law, Todd Wentz of Wichita, KS. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Teresa Jones; sister, Shirley Foster; and daughter, Janelle Wentz. Rodger grew up in Madison, KS, later moving to El Dorado, KS where he graduated from high school in 1960. He joined the United States Navy in 1962 and served as a flight crew member in Vietnam. He is a lifetime member of the VFW and member of the American Legion and was always proud of his service to his country. After 4 years in the Navy, Rodger went on to work in the aircraft industry spending all 36 years with the same company, United Beechcraft/Raytheon Aircraft Services, retiring in 2004. His greatest love was spending time with family and friends. He was so proud of his grandkids and their accomplishments and attended as many of their activities that he could. He loved playing golf with his friends and teaching his grandkids how to play as well. He also loved fishing trips and creating woodworking projects, Visitation will be from 10:00 am - 11:00 am, Funeral Service will be at 11:00 am, both on Thursday, January 18, 2024, at Downing & Lahey West Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the VFW, 211 North Main Street, El Dorado, Kansas 67042, or the American Legion Post 81, 1801 West Central, El Dorado, Kansas 67042.
