Dr. Roger Clark Bond, 86, Retired Cardiologist, passed away Friday, March 6, 2026.
Roger was born March 5, 1940, in Elmhurst, Illinois, to Marion and Lois (Clark) Bond. The youngest of three children, he graduated from Northwestern University in Evanston in 1962. Roger graduated from Marquette University College of Medicine in 1967 and completed his residency and fellowship at The Ohio State University. He served two years in the Army, one of which was in Vietnam (1969-70) at a forward clearing station (a small hospital unit) treating soldiers. He earned two Bronze Stars and an Army Commendation medal for his service.
Roger was one of the founding members of Heartland Cardiology, and senior cardiologist who was one of the early doctors bringing angioplasty to Kansas in the early 1980s. Roger’s career spanned 40 years, the last 20 with Heartland. He retired from practicing medicine in 2014.
Roger had a wonderful sense of humor and a lifelong love of travel, opera, and art, as well as college basketball and football. He relocated to Wichita, Kansas in 1974, where he also became an enthusiastic supporter of Wichita State athletics. He was a longtime season ticket holder for Shocker basketball and frequently attended WSU baseball games. Roger especially enjoyed visiting his children and grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Edith Howard and Judi Johnson.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Vicki Hermes-Bond; daughters, Jennifer Bond, of Wichita, Katie (Frank) Bond, and Amelia (Barrett) Bond, both of Longmont, CO; sons, Peter (Michelle) Bond of Birmingham, AL, and Stephen (Marina) Bond of Albuquerque, NM; grandchildren, Jackson, Jenna, James, William, Eleanor, and Matthew; and several extended family members.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established with: Kansas Food Bank, 1919 E. Douglas Ave, Wichita, KS 67211; Wichita Family Crisis Center, 1111 N. St. Francis, Wichita, KS 67214.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Wichita at the end of April. Details to come.
