Rohr, Alvin “Al”, 83, retired owner of the Wichita Drapery and Carpet Co., passed away Tuesday, January 19, 2010. Rosary 6:30 p.m., Friday, January 22, Downing Lahey Mortuary East. Funeral Mass 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 23, All Saints Catholic Church, 3205 E. Grand. Al was born May 3, 1926, in Munjor, KS, the son of Mathias and Clara (Ruder) Rohr, the 5th of 8 children. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, charter member of the Serra Club of Wichita-Metro, and charter member of the American Historical Society of Germans from Russia, “Golden Wheat Chapter”. Al was an avid Bridge player “3 No Trump” and grew up playing Pinochle, his favorite card game. He enjoyed his family and friends, bowling, playing golf and traveling, but first and foremost was the love of his religion, never missing Mass on Sundays and Holy Days. Preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Anthony, Clarence and sister, Mary Ann Burghardt. Survivors: wife, Doris; sons, Donald, Steven (Mary Jo) of Wichita; daughters, Diane Nelson (Kent) of Colorado Springs, Rebecca Wright (Robert) of Wichita and Karen Seaton (Alan) of Overland Park, KS; 14 grandchildren; 1 great-grandson; brothers, Gene (Marge) and Julius (Mary Jane); sisters, Irene Legleiter and Lorene Pfiefer (Daniel). Memorials have been established with All Saints Catholic Church and The Lords Diner, 520 N. Broadway, Wichita, KS, 67214. Rosary 6:30 p.m., Friday, January 22, Downing Lahey Mortuary East.

  1. i owe al rohr my understanding of cards , pool and many things about family life in general. though we were tied together through tragedy , there were also many wonderful moments. i ran across him a number of times at auctions and other places over the years and was always amazed at the ease he found in talking and sharing the past and the present things of his and our lives together. my heart goes out to all of his family , the earth has lost one of her best.
