Ronald E. Peake

Ronald E. Peake, 71, architect, builder and developer, died Friday, November 23rd. Celebration of Life will be Monday, December 3rd at 1:00 pm at Central Christian Church in the Chapel. Ron was born in Wichita, Kansas in 1947. He learned his work ethic early in life. At the age of 5 he was selling donuts and greeting cards door to door. He made lifelong friends at Mead Junior high and graduated from East High School. He then attended all three universities in Kansas but ended up at K-state. He was a die hard K-State fan and he received three degrees and one masters degree. He loved K-state so much he didnt want to leave so he became the campus architect and an architectural instructor. His dad finally told him thats enough and you need to start working so he came back to Wichita and started his own business. He used his architectural design degree to design and build homes in Wichita and surrounding areas for 42 years. Ron was passionate about what he did and those he worked with became like family. Ron loved Santa Fe, New Mexico and his family spent every vacation and most holidays at their condo. His time in Santa Fe started his lifelong obsession with cactus and all things Southwest especially the food. He also later in life fell in love with designing and creating mosaic crosses. Which he shared with friend, family, schools and churches in the community. Most of all Ron fiercely loved his family. He never missed anything that his children or grandchildren were involved in and he always cried as he proudly watched. His grandchildren were his whole world. He was so generous, tender-hearted, creative, stubborn, a life long learner and one of a kind. Survived by his wife, Polly, Daughters, Michelle (Peake) Howard and Patricia Peake, Son-in-law David Howard, grandchildren Haley, Addison, Olivia and Asher. Memorial has been established with the East YMCA Strong Kids Campaign, 9333 E. Douglas Ave., Wichita, KS 67207. Downing & Lahey East Mortuary.

  3. Polly & family; As a structural engineer in Wichita for many years, I had the opportunity to work with Ron, sometime reluctantly (ha) and a fellow K-Stater, we always got the project done right. Ron was a very unique and special person for Cathie and I to get to know and to appreciate. The Lords grace and peace be with you all.

  4. So sorry to hear of Rons passing. Our hearts go out to Polly and family. Ron will be greatly missed.

  5. Dear Polly ~ my heart breaks for you and your family. May the peace of God surround each of you during this difficult time. Ron will be missed…may your beautiful memories comfort you.

  6. We had the pleasure of working with Ron on our retirement home. He was a joy to be around. Our sincere condolences on your loss.

  7. I will always be grateful for the friendship Ron showed to me when I first moved to Wichita from Pennsylvania 32 years ago. I knew no one in Wichita and Ron invited me to his home and introduced me to his friends and many great people in the Wichita community. I lost touch with Ron when his family moved from the house next door some 15 years ago with both of us involved with work and our families. I occasionally saw him around town and he was always friendly and a pleasure to meet. He built many beautiful and sustaining homes for families in Wichita that will continue to be a testament to his hard work and devotion to the community. He has left us much too early and he will be greatly missed.

  8. Ron was a gentleman. So at peace in his own skin, he shown us the definition of ‘cool’, just by being himself. Noble, kind, funny, thoughtful, creative, loving, loyal, obstinate . . . all of those and more. When God made Ron I doubt if He broke the mold; just placed it in a special place to use again only when Ron returned to Heaven. (There can only be on in a billion at a time.) Our love to the wonderful family that Ron adored. Ron will always be with us, in a childs smile, a gentle breeze, and a K-State victory.

  9. So sorry Polly, Patricia and family. We loved our Ron Peake Design Build home, and will miss running into Ron occasionally at the Y, and catching up. Praying for all of you. Norm and Frances Foster family
