Rose Shanin Isenberg

Rose Shanin Isenberg, passed away October 1, among family and friends, at the home she had lived in since 1949. She was born in St. Joseph, Missouri on Feb. 18, 1912. She never wanted anyone to know how old she was but at 104 and 7 months, its something she could be proud of. She was one of 7 children and her father passed away when she was 6leaving her mother alone to raise the family. She moved to Wichita at the age of 18 and lived most of the time with her older sister, Lillie, until she married 12 years later. She was especially proud of Lillies youngest son, Senator Arlen Specter. Arlen often commented that she saved him from being named Abraham when she suggested the name Arlen, after the then famous movie actor, Richard Arlen. Rose was a volunteer worker for the Mid Kansas Jewish Federation for many years. She had many friends of all agesyoung and old. She never failed to visit on a weekly basis many of the elderly members of the community. She never went empty handedalways taking some of her delicious baked goods. Rose was the longest standing member of the Hebrew Congregation, where she attended services almost every Saturday for the last 40 years. Her mind was as sharp as a 20 year old until she suffered a stroke on Sept 12. She was a great conversationalist and had a knack for remembering phone numbers and any details you would give her about your life. Rose is survived by her two children, Mark Isenberg and Sandra Grunberger, both of Kansas City. She is preceeded in death by her husband, Julius Isenberg, who passed away in January 1980. Services will be held at Hebrew Congregation Wednesday, October 5 at 11 AM. Memorials have been established with Hebrew Congregation and Mid Kansas Jewish Federation. One could easily say same as the TV show Everyone Loved RaymondEveryone loved Rose. Indeed, we will miss her. Downing & Lahey East Mortuary.
