Roy Sanders

Sanders, Dr. Roy, passed away Sunday, June 5, 2011. He was the third son of John L. and Mary Sanders and was born January 22, 1922, at Claude, Texas. Roy entered military service in November of 1942 at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma. He then went overseas, serving in Guam, the Philippine Islands, Okinawa and Japan until he was discharged in February of 1946. In 1959, he became Superintendent of Schools at Felt, Oklahoma. At Felt, he met and married the love of his life, Bonnie C. Walker, July 15, 1961. He then taught at Northwest Missouri State University until he retired in 1984. Roy leaves to mourn his passing: his wife, Bonnie; his two stepsons and their wives, John (Sandy) and Gary (Susan) Walker; seven grandchildren, Ryan (Darcy), Scott, and Chris (Brandy) Walker, Gail (Rick) Boaldin, Marc (Rick) and Kyle Madden; eleven great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren. In addition, he is survived by two sisters, Evelyn Sanders and Winifred (Earl) Steffen, along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Memorial service, 1:30 p.m., Thursday, June 9, Downing Lahey Mortuary West. In lieu of flowers, memorials established with The Lords Diner, 520 N. Broadway, Wichita, KS 67214 and The Salvation Army, 350 N. Market, Wichita, KS 67202.
