Fischer, Rudolph A. (Rudy), 98, died Sunday, March 13, 2011. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, St. John, KS. A commemorative service will be held at the annual Fischer Family reunion, April 17. Rudy was born August 25, 1912 on a farm near Hudson, KS to Friedrich and Alma Fischer. He was the last survivor of seven brothers and two sisters. Allene (nee Radke) and Rudy were married on July 26, 1936 at St. John, KS. Rudy was a New York Life Company representative for 30 years before he retired in 1976. He taught school in rural Stafford County from 1930 to 1936, and served in the U. S. Navy in WWII and was engaged in six invasions in the Pacific Theater as a Radar Technician. Rudy was active in community affairs and was a dedicated United Methodist Church layman for over 50 years, serving as a Certified Lay Speaker as well as in other positions. Survivors are his wife, Allene; daughters, Janice C. Hobbs and DeeAnn Brown, and son-in-law, R. J. Brown, all of Wichita; grandchildren, Randall Hobbs, of Tucson, Tracy Ramsey of Wichita, Suzanne Humphrey of Thornton, CO and David Brown of Dallas, and four great-grandchildren, An infant son predeceased him. Memorials may be sent to donors choice of to the DeeAnn Brown Piano Fund, c/o Wichita State University, 1845 Fairmount, Wichita, KS, 67260. Downing Lahey Mortuary East.
