Russell Horine
May 25, 1927 ~ December 29, 2013
Russell C. Horine, 86, passed away Sunday, December 29, 2013. Russ was born May 25, 1927 in Great Bend, Kansas. He was preceded in death by parents, Marion Russell Horine and Mamie (Davis) Thomas, and sister, Joyce Herbold. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; children, Troy Horine and Connie Schlegel (Brad); grandchildren, Rebecca Schlegel (Josh Hicks) and Erin Konecny (Ron), and great-grandchildren, Damon, Jude, Christian, and Cole. Rosary, 7 p.m., Thursday, January 2; Funeral Mass, 10 a.m., Friday, January 3, both at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Russ joined the U.S. Navy in 1945 and during his time in the service travelled to both the North and South Poles with Admiral Byrd. After his discharge, he worked at Boeing for 41 years, retiring as general supervisor of electrical maintenance. After retiring, he enjoyed wood-working in his shop, especially making projects for his family, and travelling the world. He and Phyllis have been to all 50 states, 7 continents, and many places in between. He always enjoyed hunting and fishing and would say a day in the field or on the lake with friends was truly a gift from above. Memorials to Bishop Carroll High School or Sedgwick County 4-H.
