Ruth Ann Armor

Armor, Ruth Ann, was born to Ethel Joy (Moul) and Lewis Galie Rogers, December 29, 1920 in Wichita, Kansas. Ruth Ann graduated from Wichita High School East in 1937. In 1939, she won a scholarship for an aviation course, and was then chosen to receive flight training along with nine men, receiving her pilots license at age 20. Ruth Ann later worked at both Beech and Boeing Aircraft and also earned the distinguished “Man of the Year” award selling encyclopedias for Britannica Jr. In 1960, Ruth Ann embarked on a European tour with a group of women pilots and chose to stay overseas, working for Civil Service as an Administrative Assistant in Germany and Greece. She returned to Wichita upon retirement in 1984, becoming a long time volunteer with the Prison Ministry and at Christ Villa Nursing Home. She was a member of the Central Church of Christ. Ruth Ann moved to California in 2003 to be closer to her family there. She died on April 16, 2007 at Tender Touch Care Home in Walnut Creek with her daughter at her side. Ruth Ann is survived by daughter, Dawn and son-in-law Barry Barankin; three grandchildren, Brianna Claire and husband Ken, Michael Nelson and wife Sally, and Meghan Barankin; two great-grandsons, Tosh and Julian Nelson, and great-granddaughter, Kelsey Claire, all of California. Ruth Anns Wichita family includes niece Julie Keathley and husband Joe, nephew Jim Ward and wife Janet; three grand-nieces, Sara Whitelaw and husband Kevin, Katie Keathley, and Rachel Ward; and grand-nephews, Matthew Keathley and Travis Ward. She was preceded in death by her husband of eleven years, Kenneth Armor, and her sisters, Fern Herold and Wally; Doris Ward and Gene. Visitation with the family is 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. Thursday, at Downing Lahey Mortuary East. A service for Ruth Ann will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, April 27, at Central Church of Christ, 225 N. Waco. Internment following at White Chapel Memorial Gardens. Memorial donations may be sent to Hospice and Palliative Care of Contra Costa, 370 Buskirk Ave., Pleasant Hill, CA 94523 or to “The Mustard Seed Project,” Central Church of Christ.
Visitation with the family is 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. Thursday, at Downing Lahey Mortuary East.
