Ruth Margaret (Robbins) Kalp was born July 5, 1923 in Valley Center, KS to Ernest and Lucy (Ford) Robbins. She passed away on March 1, 2022. Ruth was one of 13 children, 11 of whom precede her in death. She married Lyle R. Kalp on September 15, 1944 in San Antonio, TX. They were married 55 years before Lyle’s death in 1999. Ruth was a member of the First Christian Church of Valley Center where she attended for most of her life. She attended school in Valley Center where she graduated high school. Her high school Home Economics teacher inspired her in a couple of her hobbies, sewing and baking chocolate chip cookies. In her 80’s she took on a new hobby, exercising with other seniors at the Park City Senior Center. Not only did her health improve, she was able to develop deep friendships with many of the other ladies in her class. While her children were growing up, Ruth helped with the local Boy and Girl Scouts programs. Later she helped with the distribution of USDA Commodities in Valley Center. She also volunteered to read to students at the Valley Center Wheatland Elementary School. There were family road trips almost every summer. Her two trips to Hawaii with Lyle were some of her favorite memories. Ruth also enjoyed traveling with her sisters to Las Vegas, Iowa, and Oklahoma. Preceded in death by her husband; sisters, Shirley Gibbens, Opal Baker, Mildred Babb, Birdie Harris, Ro’gene’ Harms, Myrtle Purkey, Mary Belle Fowler, Phyllis Allen; brothers, Ralph Robbins, Ernest Robbins, Jr., Phillip Robbins. Survived by her sister, Helen Hill; children, Dan Kalp of Wichita, Terry Kalp of Valley Center, Nancy (Melody) Kalp-Jones of Tulsa, OK; 7 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 3 step-great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be at 1:00 pm, Saturday, March 5, 2022, at Valley Center Christian Church. Services in care of Downing & Lahey East Mortuary.
