Sloan, Ruth Wilson, 92, passed away Tuesday, December 15, 2009 in Wichita after a short illness. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 19 at Grace Presbyterian Church in Wichita. Graveside services will be held in Harrison, AR, 10:00 a.m., Monday, December 21 at Maplewood Cemetery. The family will be present 4:00 ~ 5:00 p.m., Sunday, December 20, at Holt Memorial Chapel in Harrison. Ruth was born in Harrison, AR, September 18, 1917 on a family farm. She was the youngest of four girls and was always proud to be called a country girl. She was the daughter of Grover and Pearl Wilson. She attended Baines School near the farm before transferring to Harrison Schools. Ruth was a 1935 graduate of Harrison High School. She worked for a law firm and the Arkansas Highway Dept. before marrying James H. Sloan in 1948. They moved to Wichita, KS in 1950 where she worked for Wilson Co. Engineers Architects until retiring to raise her 2 sons, Strom and Steve. She lived in Wichita the remainder of her life. Ruth was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church for 43 years. She was happy and proud to be a member of Grace, volunteering at Economy Corner and participating in Circles, Bible Study and Best Years programs. Ruth was a member of the Sedgwick Co. Republican Women, Project Beauty and Wesley Friends. Her love of people and respect for the elderly were a passion. She was preceded in death by her husband, James H. Sloan in 1994, her parents, Grover and Pearl Wilson and sisters, Josephine Silka, Irene Henry and Louise Zucca. She is survived by two sons, Steve and his wife, Becky of Pittsburg, KS and Strom of Wichita and three grandchildren, Charlie, Maggie and Katie Sloan of Pittsburg, KS. Ruth was and always will be a much beloved wife, mother and grandmother. Her presence will be missed, but she has now rejoined those she loves in heaven and for that belief and assurance, we are grateful. Memorials to: Grace Presbyterian Church, 5002 E.   1. I am so sorry for you loss. Ruth and my mother Helen Wilson Fox werer first cousins. Ruth’s father Grover and my grandfather William (Bill) Wilson were brothers. I knew Ruth’s sisters Irene and Louise and loved them both. I wish I would have known Ruth, she looks like a very nice person.
