Ruthann Rees

Ruthann Rees, 55, exited this life on Sunday, June 19, 2016 after a thirty-two year battle with Multiple Sclerosis and jumped into the waiting arms of her Lord Jesus as family cheered her homecoming. Born December 29, 1960 in Wichita, KS, she attended schools in district 259, graduating from Southeast High School and later Wichita State University, and KU with honors. She loved teaching lower elementary and taught at Colvin, Price-Harris, and Hyde Magnet Elementary Schools. She received the “Teacher of the Year” award, in her first year teaching. She taught for 18 years while attaining 60 hours toward a doctorate when the sickness prevented her continuing. Ruthann was loved by students, faculty, and her many lifelong friends that supported her as her health declined. Her tender care and thoughtfulness touched everyone. A special thanks to any and all caregivers at home, in the hospital, and at Regent Park. She was an avid KU fan watching every game on television and eventually meeting and having conversation with Coach Bill Self at Allen Field House. Ruthann was preceded in death by her father, John (Judge) Rees, Sr.; mother, Marge; brother, John E. the 2nd; and beloved dog “Socks.” Survivors include brother, Jim of Shawnee, KS; nephews, John and Chandler, along with her ocean of friends. Public viewing will be held Friday, June 24 through Sunday, June 26, from 8:00 A.M. until 9:00 P.M. each day at Downing and Lahey Mortuary East. A worship memorial service of celebration will be held at Eastminster Presbyterian Church, 1958 N. Webb on Tuesday, June 28, 2016, at 10:00 A.M.
